I actually went along and did some assembly and painting on the Type 166 Schwimmwagen. For now, just some pictures:

The Type 166 … more assembly
Wednesday, November 4th, 2009Interior of a Schwimmwagen
Saturday, October 3rd, 2009Over the last couple of days since I was at home (more on the toilet or sleeping, but that’s a different story) I worked a bit on the Schwimmwagen interior … this is what I got
Tamiya Typ 166 “Schwimmwagen” in 1:35
Saturday, October 3rd, 2009On E-Bay I got this kit some time ago for about a third of it’s original price, completely unused. So I started building it.
The Schwimmwagen Type 128 was Ferdinand Porsche’s development based on the Type 82 “Kübelwagen”. It featured all wheel drive, a complete hull (!), a retractable propeller and was able to do 10km/h on water. Notable is, that the cars, although able to swim where rarely used in the water but where mainly used as ATVs.
British infantry on Patrol … assembly started
Sunday, September 6th, 2009I started the Brits from Tamiya already, like I wrote. Here are at least some images.
British infantry on Patrol … in 1:35
Sunday, September 6th, 2009I bought this Tamiya set while we where on a visit in Italy. And, since our neighbours had a long house-warming party I started assembling the figures. The kit consists of 2 bags. The first bag contains the figures themselves. The parts are grouped together by figure. That means no long search for parts. The second bag consists of 2 sprue of the same kind, the accessories. Cool, we will have some leftovers for the spare parts box.
It’s undressing time …
Saturday, August 29th, 2009… for the King Cobra of Tamiya. The cockpit has been painted a Tamiya black (fitting, no?). The colour I got a while ago on the infamous flea market. together with it some fitting blue as well, but to late for the base colour.
Here you go with some pictures:
Home Alone … and slotcars to restore
Tuesday, August 25th, 2009OK … my wife had to leave me … but only on family business. What else to do than to go on with one of my projects? Nothing!
So I started masking the cockpit area of the Tamiya kit. It will become flat black with the driver painted in traditional colours. But first there comes some masking … actually quite some of it:
The King Cobra – slowly getting there …
Wednesday, July 29th, 2009Last Weekend I actually managed to get forward with the painting of the Body. Currently I am quite satisfied with the metallic blue that the body has taken on now.
Metallic blue … and still more sanding
Saturday, July 25th, 2009Is the colour that I have chosen for the King Cobra. The original box art of Tamiya shows the car in a colour scheme which brings it close to Carol Shelby (but we know already, that this was wrong). I found this metallic blue in my local supermarket when I was looking for some heat resistant colour for the Live Steam Locomotive I have and just picket it up.
Back to square one …
Sunday, February 22nd, 2009Ok … I’ll tell you what happened. After all this sanding, priming and filling a made a “fatal” error. I used the wrong paint for the finish. Have a look:
