Is the colour that I have chosen for the King Cobra. The original box art of Tamiya shows the car in a colour scheme which brings it close to Carol Shelby (but we know already, that this was wrong). I found this metallic blue in my local supermarket when I was looking for some heat resistant colour for the Live Steam Locomotive I have and just picket it up.
In one of the posts about the Restoration of the Tamiya King Cobra I was asked by one of the readers where I got my windscreen replica. Since I bought it a couple of years ago from an Australian and don’t have the contact details any more, I suggested to my reader that I could create a master for a replica.
Towards the end of the 70s the Carrera Company of Germany produced a slot-less car racing system in 2 scales. The big one, called Carrera Servo 132 was in 1:32 scale. The cars where adapted from the original Carrera Universal system and Carrera Servo 160 where the cars where based on the Carrera 160 slot system. While the cars where adaptations of the existing cars, the track was a complete new invention. Instead of a slot and 2 or 3 power rails the system had 4 power rails, one beside the other. 1 car would use the outer rails and the other one would use the inner rails.

Quite some time now I have this vintage Revell slot car sitting in between my stuff. A 1:32 scale Corvette StingRay from the 60s. I have never tried it, but it does look good enough, with most required to make it a running car. On the images you can see, that there are a couple of body work parts missing, mainly chrome parts. I actually went a step further and got myself two replacement bodies from the states.
UK … the Home of the scalextric set, some even say the home of slot racing. Historical accounts though place the birth of the slot car in the US with the Lionel Manufacturing Co. , well known for its electrical train sets, producing the first commercially available set. It was approximately 1/24 scale or 1/2 inch-1-foot and was patented by J. Lionel Cowen for the Lionel Corporation. (more…)
Since rally cars are my secret favourite in modern racing I also wanted to have one in my lineup for the slot car section of the blog. I got an inexpensive Heller Ford Focus WRC ’02 (Telefonica Design) to go with the Slotvision Mach 2 Chassis. I haven’t started doing anything with that one yet. I want to finish the Porsche 936-78 Twin Turbo and the King Cobra first.
For quite some time now I was looking for a 1/24 scale Porsche 908/3 model. Finally I found a quite inexpensive resin slot car kit made by MNS. I got the kit of eBay for around €30,– including a driver figure.
Besides the fleamarket we went on a toy and model trade show on sunday. Actually it was more model railway than anything else, but I was satisfied at the end cause I got a quite big lot of Faller AMS Track and sets.
The fleamarket season has started for us. Today we visited the first one over here. First I thought like usually I won’t find anything but then I got myself a Carrera Porsche Turbo in orange.
For my Porsche 936-78 Twin Turbo kit I bought a new chassis, which I hope will suit it quite well. Currently I am not sure though. I chose the 1:24 scale “Monza GT” in-line chassis by Schmidbauer-Modellauto.
