Wow … what a weekend. Saturday I’ve been at a local car boot sale and brought bags of stuff (a couple of tank kits, a plane, a Billing Boat Kit …) and then afterwards I went with some friends of the Fischer Technik Club NL to a convention of the FTCommunity in Erbes-Büdesheim which was for the first time organised by Knobloch GmbH, a company dedicted to Fischer Technik.

I was most impressed by the large models … a crane made out of static parts, which was 3 times as tall as the builder D. Kutsch (easily!), a freefall rollercoaster and “flying Fischer Technik”. Thanks a lot folks for this nice day!

On Sunday we have been to one of our usual markets, but this time I have brought back a link for you guys: http://www.ig-h0slot.de/

… one seller had some Faller H0 Trak on display and that cought my glimpse. The second thing I saw where 1:43 scale model cars and resin models in that scale. Then one of those caught my glimpse, since it was prepared as a slotcar for the current “small scale” Carrera Go system. We started talking a bit and exchanged e-mail addresses since I like what they do (actually I also liked the guy …). They don’t use Faller as racing system but in the way it was initially intended, as a “traffic simulation” like the UK Minic Motorways. Thumbs up guys!

Voyager” from Star Trek (more on that later). And today I could have gone mad … beside a lot of 1:35 scale military models (partly built and painted) I found some Carrera Universal cars which where worth their price.

A Opel Manta (Lexan), a Porsche and a A.C. Cobra Roadster. They cam together with a battered Porsche Carrera 6 (split bonnet) and a Cooper Climax (I think) in OK condition. Pictures will follow.

This was the first time I actually worked with one of the new airbrush since the compressor arrived. I took the one with the 3mm nozzle. Overall a quite satisfying experience, not at all comparable to the crude beginner model I used before. I can imagine doing quite some good work with it.

For the Porsche 908 Resin Kit I bought some parts quite a while ago. The Sheet is for the Gulf coloured 908/3 which was raced by the Werksteam in 1970. There are decals for two cars, the Targa Florio and the 1000km Nürburgring. I will try to make it the Targa Florio Version, which I also have in 1/32 by Fly (upgraded with Slot.it parts).

Together with the decal sheet I also got me some Colour, the Werksfarbe “Gulf Blau” (Gulf blue), and a technic kit for building a car compliant to the DSC rules. These kits are good value for money and you get everything you need to build a chassis ready to compete (remember, I have 2 of them).

OK … my wife had to leave me … but only on family business. What else to do than to go on with one of my projects? Nothing!

So I started masking the cockpit area of the Tamiya kit. It will become flat black with the driver painted in traditional colours. But first there comes some masking … actually quite some of it:

Overall view of the masked cockpit ...

... from both sides.

Actually, since I am quite lazy I covered the rear area with paper from a standard note block … But then again … that’s what the real car painters do as well (with different paper though).

Dttailed area around the driver figure ...

... and more detailed.

The last detail images only show, that I need a new blade for my scalpel … don’t I?

You can see that I didn’t mask too well, since at the body panel lines there are some red markings where they do not belong … I will be able though to remove them by lightly scraping over them with a scalpel. And the body will get some white colour as well. For that I will mask off the read and other painted areas.

Last Weekend I actually managed to get forward with the painting of the Body. Currently I am quite satisfied with the metallic blue that the body has taken on now.

Metallic blue ... lots of it

And even more from the other side

Even the little details like the air scoops, the front emblem and the spoiler posts are quite OK now. Next step is the cockpit and the driver. I will start by masking the area around the cockpit to give it a flat black. The driver will get a, for that time typical, white overall with brown gloves. Then there is the issue of the decals … beside a number (obvious, isn’t it?) the original box art shows the model with the typical Ford / Shelby stripes on the sides.

Detailed view of metallic blue

More detailes of metallic blue.

Peter, the Dutch reader who is currently working on the same model wants to get rid of the complete cockpit section and modify it to be a full cockpit. Although I am more towards the restoration attempt, I can see the benefits of it. The hump beside the driver does not make any sense for the chassis, since it is a sidewinder. The hump would make a sense if it was originally planned for a in-line motor set-up.

Some years ago during one of our visits of the local freemarkets I found this Cox BRM F1 in acceptable shape. OK … the windscreen is horribly glued to the body, the mirrors and the stabilisers for the rearaxle are missing but that did reflect in the price. And … somebody tried to make it a Ferrari … I wonder why.

vintage Cox BRM F1 - 1

In the next Pictures you can see Details of the Cockpit with the untreated driver bust, the missing mirrors and the horrible glue line at the front and left side. I will still need to find out how to remove them without using reproduction parts or destroying the windscreen completely.

right side of the cockpit with driver bust

Also the failed attempt to decal this car needs to go and proper replacements need to be found. Preferably an original edcal sheet, but a reproduction will have to do I assume.

yepp ... somebody tried.

For the rearaxel stabilisers I have seen already simple wire replacements, I’ll just need a good image so I can make them look as good as they should.

missing stabilisers on the right side ...

Also the exhaust part needs to be properly attached again, since the part is broken where the part attaches to the chassis …

Remember, a couple of posts ago I promised a dutch reader that I would make a master for the Tamiya King Cobra wind screen. Finally I did it. I mixed up some CeranoFix (by Eberhard Faber) and pured it into the windscreen part I had.

The empty lexan wind screen

Some people tend to adhere to strict recipes when it comes down to mixing something, but I tend to mix as I go on. I am used to this by my apprenticeship as electrician, about 20 years ago. Anyway, stir the mixture well and leave it a bit liquid so it lets air bubbles escape. The more liquid the mass is, the longer it will take drying.

The CeramoFix has been poured

Final Product ...

Now I will let it dry a couple of days and then get it ready to ship if this reader still needs it …

[UPDATE]
Now I’ll just need the address of Peter to ship it to him. But that will be done privately.
