Taisho – revival of a vintage white metal figure kit

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

Most of you will have followed the “long” negotiations between Gustavo and me about the loan of the original Taisho kit here. and some might be quite exited about the closure of the deal. The kit is now ready and I got a first copy (OK … part of the deal).

So, for those of you who are interested in purchasing this kit it is available on E-Bay by Gustavo under his seller name “miniatnapoleon“. He does have quite some other good figures listed there as well, so if you are interested in figures and are looking for some great and inexpensive figure kits, pay his auctions a visit … it’s well worth it. Even with the very moderate (!) shipping costs on top you get a great kit for a fraction of the price of an original!

Tamiya Typ 166 “Schwimmwagen” in 1:35

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

On E-Bay I got this kit some time ago for about a third of it’s original price, completely unused. So I started building it.

The Schwimmwagen Type 128 was Ferdinand Porsche’s development based on the Type 82 “Kübelwagen”. It featured all wheel drive, a complete hull (!),  a retractable propeller and was able to do 10km/h on water. Notable is, that the cars, although able to swim where rarely used in the water but where mainly used as ATVs.

Focke Wulf Fw 190 A-8

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Having received the colours (see previous post) I started building the FW190. The cockpit was straight forward and easy to build, as base colour I chose RLM “dark gray”. The Highlights where done with a flat white from Citadell Colours. I didn’t do a lot more here.

British infantry on Patrol … in 1:35

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

I bought this Tamiya set while we where on a visit in Italy. And, since our neighbours had a long house-warming party I started assembling the figures. The kit consists of 2 bags. The first bag contains the figures themselves. The parts are grouped together by figure. That means no long search for parts. The second bag consists of 2 sprue of the same kind, the accessories. Cool, we will have some leftovers for the spare parts box.

… for the King Cobra of Tamiya. The cockpit has been painted a Tamiya black (fitting, no?). The colour I got a while ago on the infamous flea market. together with it some fitting blue as well, but to late for the base colour.

Here you go with some pictures:

Decals for a Porsche 908/3

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

For the Porsche 908 Resin Kit I bought some parts quite a while ago. The only  decal set I found was sold via “Jens Scale Racing” and was made by BvH. The Sheet is for the Gulf coloured 908/3 which was raced by the Werksteam in 1970. There are decals for two cars, the Targa Florio and the 1000km Nürburgring. I will try to make it the Targa Florio Version, which I also have in 1/32 by Fly (upgraded with Slot.it parts).

Together with the decal sheet I also got me some Colour, the Werksfarbe “Gulf Blau” (Gulf blue), and a technic kit for building a car compliant to the DSC rules. These kits are good value for money and you get everything you need to build a chassis ready to compete (remember, I have 2 of them).
