When I introduced the X-Wing Easy Kit I said, that it could be made into a good looking model. Well let’s start then.We are going to dismantle the Fighter and clean the parts of excessive material which is leftover from casting.
Now have a look at the difference between the uncleaned parts (left) and the clean parts (right). There are two things which are immediately visible:
- The cleaning process affects the factory applied paint
- The excess flash is gone
The “missing” paint is actually not a problem, since we are going to apply a new paintjob at the end anyway. Here are two more examples:
To achieve this cleaning I took the blade of the scalpel and scraped it lightly over the excess plastic material until I could feel a smooth surface. Yes, that is right, the fingertips are a tool as well.
Until the next post there is time enough to remove the excess material from all the other components as well.
